When the clock strikes 12 at Fisherman's Beach, Albufeira, 100,000 people will stare up at one of Europe's most impressive fireworks displays, over the stage of the Atlantic Ocean. The party is one of Portugal's biggest annual events when the town's streets and beach come alive for the evening. Previous years have seen Bob Sinclar, Nelly Furtado and UB40 perform, so expect a special night.
If that sounds too energetic, you could always settle in at one of the many quiet restaurants for some local cuisine or join a night of food, drinks and dancing at a hotel.
Whatever you choose, Albufeira is the place to be for New Year's Eve. Everyone is invited for an exciting short break holiday.
