Wineries

The Algarve region around Albufeira is home to several wineries reflecting the area’s developing wine tradition. One of the best-known is Adega do Cantor, located in Guia, just a short distance from Albufeira.

Adega do Cantor was founded by British singer Sir Cliff Richard, who fell in love with the Algarve over 40 years ago and eventually turned that passion into a winemaking project. He restored several estates — including Quinta do Moinho, Quinta do Miradouro and Vale do Sobreiro — and planted vineyards on sun-drenched slopes.

The winery produces acclaimed labels, such as Vida Nova and Onda Nova, using grape varieties suited to the hot, dry climate. While ownership has since changed, the estate’s reputation and connection with Cliff Richard remain part of its story.

Visits to wineries like this typically include guided tours of the vineyards and production facilities and wine tastings that explain the winemaking process from vine to bottle.
