Paderne Main Church

Paderne Main Church, also known as the Church of Nossa Senhora da Esperança, is one of the parish’s most significant religious and heritage monuments, classified as a Property of Public Interest. Built in the 16th century to serve the new settlement of Paderne after the population moved beyond the castle walls, it stands as an important testimony to the locality’s historical evolution.

The church is distinguished by its blend of Manueline and Renaissance elements, featuring three naves and an interior of notable artistic richness, including an 18th-century main altarpiece, several 17th- and 18th-century wooden sculptures, and a Baroque image of Saint Michael the Archangel.

Due to its architectural, historical, and religious significance, Paderne Main Church is one of the principal heritage landmarks in the inland area of the municipality of Albufeira.
