Statue of Saint Vincent of Albufeira

The Statue of Saint Vincent pays tribute to one of the most important historical figures associated with Albufeira: Friar Vicente de Santo António, also known as Saint Vincent of Albufeira or Blessed Vincent, born in the town in 1590.

A missionary of the Order of Saint Augustine, he travelled to the East to evangelise Japan, where he was imprisoned and martyred in Nagasaki in 1632, becoming one of the most emblematic religious figures in local history.

Located in Largo Jacinto d’Ayet beside the Church of Sant’Ana, the statue symbolises the city’s pride in its spiritual and historical heritage and is now one of the most iconic and photographed monuments in the historic centre.
