Diving in Albufeira offers a mix of adventure, marine life and underwater exploration in the clear waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Rocky reefs, diverse fish populations and several dive sites make this part of the Algarve an attractive destination for divers of all levels.

A standout feature is the Art Reef by Vhils, a permanent underwater art installation created by Portuguese artist Vhils (Alexandre Farto) in partnership with EDP. This site consists of 13 submerged sculptures placed at about 12 metres depth, around one nautical mile off the coast of Albufeira.

The art reef uses repurposed materials from decommissioned power plants transformed into large-scale works that are designed to evolve into an artificial reef and marine habitat as coral and other organisms settle on them over time.

Diving here is a unique experience where art meets ecological restoration, offering something different from typical wreck or natural reef dives. Marine species such as octopus, rays and colourful fish are commonly seen around the structures.
