Arch of Travessa da Igreja Velha

The Arch of Travessa da Igreja Velha is a notable example of the Arab architectural heritage preserved in Albufeira’s historic centre, distinguished by its traditional form and original construction elements still visible today.

Among its most characteristic details are the embedded clay vessels within the structure and the old stone pavement with a central drainage channel, typical features of Islamic-influenced urban architecture.

The street’s name derives from the former presence of an Arab mosque later converted into a Christian church, a building that was ultimately destroyed in the 1755 earthquake.
