Ferreiras Railway Station

Ferreiras Railway Station, officially known as Albufeira-Ferreiras Station, is one of the municipality’s most important transport infrastructures, serving as Albufeira’s main rail connection to the national railway network. Opened on 1 July 1889, it forms part of the historic Algarve Line and has accompanied the region’s railway development since the late 19th century.

Built in Ferreiras, several kilometres from Albufeira’s urban centre, the station played a decisive role in the municipality’s economic and tourism growth, becoming over time a key gateway for residents and visitors. During its early years, transport to the town was provided by animal-drawn vehicles.

More than a transport facility, the station represents a landmark in the modern development of Ferreiras and a structural element in the territorial evolution of the municipality of Albufeira.
